UTCs are government-funded academies with a focus on employer-led education in STEM subjects. The aim of UTCs is to develop young people with the technical, professional and personal skills that employers need in high growth, high tech sectors of the economy such as advanced manufacturing and technology, as well as to fill the requirements of increasingly technical roles across many areas of the public and private sector.
Sero helped to set up two UTCs in Sheffield – the first specialising in engineering and creative digital media, which launched in 2013, and the second specialising in computing, health science and sports science, which launched in 2016. Sero contributed to the computing and creative digital media curriculum design, provided project management resource for both UTCs, ran the public consultations and continues to provide marketing recruitment support through Sero Creative. Both UTCs are amongst the top performing in the country and The Sheffield UTC Academy Trust now encompasses a third, UTC Derby Pride Park.
